65 Years of Lytchett & Upton Floral Group

Lytchett & Upton Floral Group celebrated their 65th Anniversary with a demonstration and workshop with Hans Haverkamp. The demonstration, at Lytchett Minster School delighted the audience on Friday evening with his relaxed style and fabulous designs. On Saturday Hans tutored a well attended workshop using some of his current favourite materials, T- grass and bear grass. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day. Congratulations to all at Lytchett and Upton on their anniversary and for  organising these lovely events.

Trainee Demonstrator Mock Tests

We had a very entertaining morning yesterday from 5 trainee demonstrators, 3 of which are Dorset & Guernsey Area members. They demonstrated 2 designs each from their portfolios for their mock test. We were delighted to have a good audience and hope members will come and support them all on 1st September when they take their test. Here’s a sneaky look into one or two of their flower boxes.

Area Day 2018

Another great Area Day. Michael’s Floral Tour of India was entertaining, fascinating, colourful and a great insight into the significance of flowers in India. Following a tasty lunch, Derek Armstrong delighted us with an explosion of flowers. His stories, his humour, his flowers, his designs were all fantastic.
The welcome pedestal was greatly admired and the Hamworthy rocked with the chatter from lots of members

National Flower Arranging Day – 4th May 2018

NAFAS have changed the emphasis away from “Lonely Bouquets” due to perceived associations with loneliness and roadside tributes.

However, some clubs have expressed interest in continuing to celebrate National Flower Arranging Day with small bouquets/posies given to or left for strangers.

Owermoigne Flower Club have produced labels for their club members to use for “Friendship Bouquets” which promote their club and the Dorset and Guernsey Area and encourage people to make contact.

A modified label on which you can identify your own club is available in PDF form and you are welcome to print and use it yourself.

Area Member competes at RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year

Amy Shakeshaft is a Dorset and Guernsey area member of NAFAS, a trainee demonstrator and Level 4 florist she has made it through to compete for the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year 2018. Amy competed in the South West heat at Bridgwater and Taunton College in February with a score of 81/100. There are 7 heats held across the country with the top 16 scoring competitors getting the opportunity to compete in the finals at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May.
For the heat Amy had to design and create a winter wedding floral stole to be worn by the bride at her wedding in a Scottish Castle. Amy’s inspiration for the stole came from the Scottish tartan, pheasant feathers and foliages.
Amy will be looking for sponsors to help cover the vast expense of competing at Chelsea and if you would like to contact her regarding sponsorship or to congratulate her you can contact her on shakeaj@gmail.com or 07411054589
