Dorset & Guernsey’s Floral Years a Great Success

We had a splendid Area Show at Motcombe Village Hall finishing yesterday afternoon with the prize giving. The floral designs were superb, the atmosphere was happy and relaxed, the whole event was a great success and a credit to all those who were involved. We were delighted to have many visitors attend too. A full list of prize winners and photos of the prize winning designs is available on the Area Show 2021 page of this website.

Just over a week to go to our Area Show

We’re all getting excited about our Area Show next week. The weather forecast is looking good so we hope you’ll all come and join us for a fabulous day out at Motcombe near Shaftesbury. The setting is beautiful, you can be wowed by the floral designs on display, there’s some shopping opportunities, and green space where you can enjoy our refreshments and a playground for those littles ones who might be with you. Make it a date and we’ll look forward to welcoming you there.

Our Final YouTube Video is released

Today we release our final video, our 28th! Huge thanks must go to our Teachers, Demonstrators, their family and friends who assisted them, and to  Steve Diamond who edited them all. They’ve entertained hundreds of us during the past year and kept Dorset & Guernsey’s “family” together. Now we hope you can return to your flower clubs and resume your club activities.

Todays release features Denise Jones, Area Demonstrator and Floral Designer based in Weymouth. In this video Denise demonstrates how to make a wire armature to hold a hand tied arrangement. She goes on to build a polychromatic bouquet based on the colours of the rainbow and celebrating the massive contribution from all workers in the NHS during the pandemic.

To view the video go to the About the Area page of this website and click the link to our YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Four Weeks to go to the Area Show

Have you got your entry in to the Area Show yet? Some classes are full but we have plenty of options still available. Have a look at the schedule on this website. We know there are lots of talented members in our clubs who could find a class to enter.
The show committee visited the venue again last week and here is a taster for you. It’s spacious with lots of lovely outdoor space, even a children’s play area so bring the family too!
We really want to see you all there and your friends too. What a great day out after our forced isolation.

Latest You Tube Video released

Area Demonstrator Irene Hickson delights with a natural looking design which is foam free and uses the end of the spring flowers from her garden and adds a few from the summer collection. To view the video go to the About the Area page and click the YouTube button.

Area Garden Gatherings Cancelled

Following the announcement on Monday that the relaxation of COVID rules is to be delayed, the Area Garden Gatherings planned for 22/23/24th June 2021 have been cancelled. It is very sad that the event cannot take place, but everyone must follow the guidelines and keep safe.

D&G release a further video from Allison Finch

D&G Area Teacher and Demonstrator Allison Finch has based this design on a workshop she did with Jonathan Moseley. Working with light summer flowers she has replaced the original, visually heavy, wool felt and aluminium wire with short bands of paper although she says that “The design would work equally well with fabric, ribbons etc. (Although care should be taken not to ‘upstage’ the flowers.)” Allison has extended the concept to make place and wall settings, and these could also be used for chair backs. For this video Allison demonstrates a table setting for two, however many table settings (or indeed one long one) could be made to go the length of a buffet or wedding table.

To view the video select the About the Area page and then click the YouTube button.
